Job hunting can feel like a chore at times. It can also invite unnecessary stress for many people.
Not for us so much. We have a huge network of job opportunities so finding temporary work for job seekers is pretty easy – and very satisfying.
But, we can appreciate how you may find looking for jobs demotivating – especially if you’re experiencing a lot of rejections.
Moreover, rejection can have a negative impact on your mental health. Job search depression and job search fatigue typically kicks in around week 10-12 of a job search.
At the root of job depression is a lack of emotional wellbeing. On top of the financial stress of not having an income, your self-esteem can take a beating and your sense of self-worth diminishes.
The American Psychological Association describe self-esteem as a perceived impression of yourself. The APA dictionary says:
“It reflects a person’s physical self-image, view of his or her accomplishments and capabilities, and values and perceived success in living up to them, as well as the ways in which others view and respond to that person.”
What that basically means is that coping with the stress of job hunting involves taking the time to nurture your emotional wellbeing.
Get Psyched With Friends
Job hunting can be demoralizing. And in times of need, you need your best friends to rally around you.
If you find yourself feeling down because you can’t find a job, stroke your ego.
Good friends are great pick-me-ups so take the time to have a few heart-to-hearts, one-to-one. Sometimes you need to be reminded about your strengths and achievements.
It’s surprising how often we brush our past achievements to one side. This is amplified when you don’t have a job because you don’t feel as though you’re achieving anything with your life.
Thoughts of ‘I’m not good enough’, and ‘I’ll never get a job’ start to creep in. Negative thinking is the last thing you want to do. If you don’t feel like your life has purpose or meaning, you can sink into depression which – will make it even harder to land a job when the right opportunities arrive.
Stay Motivated to Develop Job Skills
During the job-hunting process, it’s important to stay positive and motivated. Give yourself a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
